Generic Name : KAOLIN and PECTIN
Pronunciation : (kay' oh lin) (pek' tin)
Trade Name(s) : Pesulin-O, Pectomycin.
Why it is prescribed: The combination of kaolin and pectin
is used to control mild to moderate diarrhea.
When it is to be taken: This medication usually is taken
after each loose bowel movement. Follow the directions on the
label carefully. If you take digoxin, wait several hours after
taking it before taking kaolin and pectin. Take kaolin and pectin
at least two hours before or three to four hours after taking
lincomycin.
How it should be taken: This combination drug comes in
the form of liquid. Shake the bottle well before each use to mix
the medication evenly. The label tells you how much to take at
each dose.
Special Instruction :
1. Drink plenty of water or other beverages to replace fluids
lost while having diarrhea.
2. If your diarrhea does not improve within 48 hours or if you
develop a fever, consult a doctor.
Side Effects : Mild constipation. Do not take this drug
more often and do not take more of it than as directed on the
label. If this problem persists or is severe, contact your doctor.
Other Precautions : Do not give this medication to infants
or children under three years of age unless directed to do so
by a doctor
Storage Conditions : Keep this medication in the container
it came in and out of the reach of children. Store it at room
temperature.
