Dead Set - Grateful Dead (Arista A2L 8606 or AL9-8112) This live electric
album was recorded between September 25 and October 14, 1980 at the Warfield
Theater in San Francisco, and October 22 and 31, 1980 at Radio City Music
Hall, NYC. Released on August 26, 1981. Some versions have an AL9-1053
sticker over the A2L 8606 number. Both "Space" and "Drums" appear on the
album. Also released as AL9-8152. Part of the recording set-up for this
album included three clusters of three mics, placed above the stage and 25 and
40 feet from the stage. Many of the songs were edited down from their
original concert time (e.g. "Friend Of The Devil" was about 10 minutes long as
played, versus 7:24 timing on the album). "Space" > "Fire On The Mountain"
could be from October 31, 1980.

Bobby & The Midnites - Bob Weir (Arista AL 9568) A pre-Grateful Dead Brent
Mydland appears on this October 21, 1981 release. Some albums also released
as ALB6-8367 and AL5-8148 and as 8558. The cover features a black cat.
"Midnite the Cat" was on a TV show called "Andy's Gang", which Weir had watched
as a small child. Weir sketched the cat, and Victor Moscoso made the drawing
on the album cover. "Haze" (5:08) was written, more or less, as a eulogy for
Weir's friend Bruce Baxter. "Too Many Losers" (3:50) had several working
titles, including "F*ckin' With Fire" and "Stokin' With Fire", but Weir was
told by Clive Davis, of Arista Records, to tone down the title. It was written
for a couple of Weir's friends. "Far Away" (3:34) was developed over a
Matthew Kelly riff, played around with by Weir and Bobby Cochran. "Book Of
Rules" (3:31) was previously recorded by The Heptones, and that version appears
to be based on a poem "A Bag Of Tools" by R. L. Sharp. The lyrics to "Me
Without You" (3:12) were originally written by Alphonso Johnson, then rewritten
by Bob Weir, and finally by Barlow. As originally written by Bob Weir,
"Josephine" (6:11) has more verses than were recorded. "(I Want To) Fly Away"
(3:55) was written with Bob Marley in mind. "Carry Me" (4:27) is a simple love
letter. "Festival" (4:59) was written over a span of several years.
