The Twilight Zone (CBS Broadcasting, 1985) The Grateful Dead and Merl
Saunders wrote a number of the scores for this series which premiered on
September 27, 1985. The main and end titles music is by the Grateful Dead.
This TV series, produced by Phil DeGuere, was broadcast in 1985 and 1986.
The opening theme piano music is Merl Saunders and Brent Mydland playing
together.

teleplay for "The Devil's Alphabet" episode, broadcast in March, 1986.
A Prairie Home Companion - Minnesota Public Radio ( ) The January 10, 1987
show included a medley of "Ripple", "Brokedown Palace", and "Attics Of My
Life" performed by Garrison Keillor (vocals), Velma Fry (vocals), Pat Donahue,
and John Nieman (with acoustic guitar, mandolin, and piano). This medley was
broadcast on the "Grateful Dead Hour Number xxx".
Levi's 501 Jeans - Levi Strauss Co., S.F. ( ) A 30 second radio commercial
featuring Garcia, Sandy Rothman, David Nelson, and John Kahn playing a
bluegrass-type tune, and Garcia singing '...a good pair of Levi's bound to
set me free ... Levi's 501 jeans shrink to fit only me...'. Aired in early
1987.
Levi's 501 Jeans - Levi Strauss Co., S.F. ( ) During a 501 jeans commercial
with the fish, Jerry Garcia is (supposedly) playing in the background. This
commercial may also include Branford Marsalis, Bruce Hornsby, and Rob
Wasserman.
The Heroes Journey: The World of Joseph Campbell - ( ) Premiered on May 29,
1987 in Los Angeles at a benefit for the Hermes Society. The soundtrack
includes Mickey Hart, Jerry Garcia, and Brent Mydland playing.
Further! Ken Kesey's American Dreams - ( ) A one hour film about Ken Kesey
with footage of the acid tests, the Dead playing 'Trips' music at Kesey's
house in La Honda in 1966, Merry Pranksters, Jerry Garcia bits, etc. Shown on
June 16, 1987 on KQED (PBS). Produced by Joan Saffa and Steve Talbot.
Furthermore! - ( ) A half-hour program of outtakes from "Further!" with
longer segments of the interviews with Tom Wolfe, Allen Ginsberg, Ram Dass and
Kesey's other friends and acquaintances. Shown after "Further!".
Touch Of Grey - Grateful Dead ( ) Video of the short version of the song.
Premiered on June 19, 1987. The video was shot on May 9, 1987, at the Laguna
Seca Recreation Area after the Dead's show there. It was directed by Gary
Gutierrez.
Day Of The Dead - ( ) An MTV special which was broadcast in August, 1987.
It included various clips of taped performances, interview segments with
Garcia and Hart about the "In The Dark" album, and hourly reports by Carolyn
Haldeman from the Giants Stadium parking lot during the Grateful Dead's show.
Hell In A Bucket - Grateful Dead ( ) A video of the song. Premiered in
September, 1987.
Late Night With David Letterman - (NBC) Garcia and Weir appear on the
September 17, 1987 broadcast. They play with the Late Night band during the
show ("Good Loving", "All Along the Watchtower", "Walking The Dog", and "Tore
Up Over You", "Kansas City" during the commercial intros) and perform "When I
Paint My Masterpiece". Jerry Garcia spelled "TRUCKIN" on a Scrabble board
during the show's lead-in. Bob Weir shows a parlor trick by levitating Jerry
Garcia.
Farm Aid III - var. ( ) "I Need A Miracle" > "Maggie's Farm" > "Black Peter"
from the September 19, 1987 show were included as part of the Farm Aid III
broadcast.
