Trandolapril or Mavik is a long acting angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor similar to lisinopril and enalapril. It is used in cardiovascular conditions such as hypertension.
Trandolapril or Mavik inhibits an enzyme, ACE, which is involved in the angiotensin-renin system. This system plays an integral role in blood pressure control, and with ACE inhibition blood pressure is lowered.
Trandolapril or Mavik is well tolerated, however side effects have been reported - hypotension, gastro intestinal disturbance, headache, dizziness, cough, tiredness, and muscle cramps.
People must realize that Trandolapril or Mavik, like other medication used in cardiovascular conditions, must be taken routinely to ensure control of the condition.
Because Trandolapril or Mavik can lower blood pressure, care must be taken in combination with other medication that can also lower blood pressure, that hypotension or too low blood pressure occur.
