Generic Name : FLURANDRENOLIDE
Pronunciation : (flure an dren' oh lide)
Trade Name(s) :
Why it is prescribed: Flurandrenolide is used to treat
the itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, inflammation,
and discomfort of various skin conditions.
When it is to be taken: Flurandrenolide is used two or
three times a day. Follow the instructions on your prescription
label carefully.
How it should be taken:
Flurandrenolide comes in the form of ointment, cream, and lotion
in various strengths for use on the skin. It also comes in tape
to be applied to the skin as a dressing.
1) Wash the affected area thoroughly. Then apply the ointment,
cream or lotion sparingly in a thin film and rub it in gently.
Then apply another thin film.
2) Cover the area with thin plastic wrap and attach the plastic
with adhesive tape to normal skin adjacent to the treated area
or hold the plastic in place with an elastic or gauze bandage.
3) Wash the area each time you apply the medication. If the area
is moist, you can leave the edges of the plastic wrap partly unsealed
or puncture the plastic wrap to allow excess moisture to escape.
4) If your skin is dry, you can soak the area briefly before applying
the medication and place a damp cloth on the area before covering
it with plastic.
5) If the treated area is the scalp, fingers, or hands, you can
use a tight plastic shower cap for your scalp and gloves for your
fingers and hands rather than plastic wrap. Ask your doctor for
specific instructions.
6) If you are using flurandrenolide on your face, keep it away
from your eyes.
If you are to use the tape, follow these steps and the special
instructions that accompany this medication:
1) Gently clean the affected area with germicidal soap and water,
removing any scales and crusts. Dry your skin thoroughly. Shave
or clip the hair in the area to allow the tape to adhere well
to your skin and for comfortable removal.
2) Cut a piece of tape slightly larger than the treatment area
and round off the corners.
3) Remove the white paper from the tape, exposing the medicated
surface. Do not let the tape stick to itself. Keeping your skin
smooth, press the tape in place.
Replace the tape as instructed on your prescription label. Remove
the old tape, wash your skin, and allow the area to dry for one
hour before applying fresh tape. If the ends of the tape loosen
before it is time to replace it, trim off the ends and replace
them with new tape. If irritation or infection develops, contact
your doctor. Do not use the tape if your skin is oozing; contact
your doctor.
