Why it is prescribed: Dipyridamole is used with other medication
to prevent blood clots and problems such as stroke.
When it is to be taken: Dipyridamole is usually taken three
or four times a day, at least one hour before meals. Follow the
instructions on your prescription label carefully. Dipyridamole
must be taken regularly to be effective, so follow the schedule
prescribed by your doctor.
How it should be taken: Dipyridamole comes in the form
of tablets. Your prescription label tells you how much to take
at each dose. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water,
coffee, tea, milk, or juice.
Special Instruction : If you forget to take a dose, omit
the missed dose. Take your regular dose at the next scheduled
time.
Side Effects :
1. Headache, dizziness, flushing, weakness, fainting. Contact
your doctor if these effects are severe or persist. It may be
necessary to change your dose.
2. Nausea, vomiting. Eat a light snack when you take the medication.
Skin rash. Contact your doctor.
Other Precautions :
1. Before you take dipyridamole, tell your doctor what drugs you
are taking, including anticoagulants and nonprescription drugs
such as aspirin.
2. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should inform their
doctors.
