I've never used a belt sander but it seems like it would be easy to
make a mess with one. The PC is fast enough that I could see doing
cabinet doors and bookshelves with it. And it's a random orbital motion
which leaves a nice looking surface without any extra effort. One
drawback is that there is no concept of a dust bag as far as I can tell.
Another consideration is that it's a lot harder to turn it upside
down and clamp it to your table for stationary sanding. I don't know
what kind of results you'd get if you did manage to clamp it down.
