I seem to remember (and I know I'll be corrected if I'm wrong)
that those explosions are caused because in a very dusty
environment the surface area to volume ratio is quite high,
allowing oxidation to take place *very* quickly, i.e. as
combustion. Implying that if the dust isn't fine enough, it
won't burn fast enough to cause a self-sustaining explosion.
