I have Grizzly's $99 scroll saw. I don't know what the "fixed blade
mount" means; the blade on the saw has a pin sticking out of its
top and bottom, perpendicular to the blade. When the blade is mounted
in the saw, these pins rest in a V-shaped trough in the saw's arms.
Perhaps they're worried about the rubbing that those pins must get
when the rocker arms are moving up and down during operation? I haven't
used the saw all that extensively yet, but I don't see the problem.
As I discovered in December, though, Grizzly's $99 scroll saw was the
same as Grossman's $85 scroll saw. If I were you, I'd check out the
nearest Home Depot, Channel, etc. and see if they have a scroll saw
at around that price. I think there's some Taiwanese guy who makes
these in his garage and sole-sources the entire world...:-)
