I am in the process of shopping around for a router. After visiting
a couple of local tool shops I am leaning towards buying either the
Porter Cable 690 or the PC 691 D handle router (both 1.5 hp). I have a
tough time deciding which one is the better buy. The pc690 sells for $139/-
and the pc691 sells for $159/- at the local store. I noticed that apart
from the difference in the handle construction these two routers differ
in the way you control the depth setting also. I would appreciate it very
much if any of you could give some comments about these routers as to
how convenient/unconvenient they are under different routing situations.
I have the following questions
1. Do you find it difficult to use the depth control in the D handle
router when it is mounted underneath the table ?
2. If you own the pc 691 why did you prefer it over the 690 ? Or if
you own the 690 why did you prefer it over the 691 ? Does the D handle
make much difference in the ease of use of the router ?
3. Are there any mail order places (reliable) where I can get a better
price ?
