I have a Makita 3HP plunge router. Several people I talked to said this
was over doing it on the power, but my basic opinion is you can't use
what you don't have. A 1 1/2 HP router can get slowed by a moderately hard
wood, thats why I went looking for a 2 HP one but could not find one.
The router has yet to be loaded down which gives a cleaner cut. The
plunge capability is real nice for getting a clean entry into the middle
of a board. The router is heavy (12 lbs) but that contributes to its
stability. Overall I am very happy with my Makita, its well constructed,
powerful and easy to use. I will never have to buy another one agian.
BTW it cost $225.
