When I built my guitar, the place I was at had a Makita 3/4 hp veneer
trimmer and a 1 1/2 hp craftsman. When I was routing for the edge
binding in rosewood, the craftsman would sometimes hesitate (not
quite choke) while the makita never even slowed down.
I'd probably contend that a better quality router with less hp is
still better than a higher hp with a lower quality motor.
