If you don't mind checking for various coupons you can save a significant amount of money by taking those into the shops and buying things at a discount. Big shops tend to send fliers with coupons, but you can also check for coupons online. There are multiple sites that provide this service. I've listed a few of those at the end of this article.
Another proliferating marketing technique is called "rebates".. When rebate is advertised, you pay a full price of the product, and then you mail in a rebate and a few weeks to a few months later you get a check for the value of the rebate, which you then cash in. Sometimes sales people go crazy and offer, 90% to 100% rebate. The trick is that most people don't bother to send the rebate in, often simply because they forget to do that. So the sellers still make a big profit. So don't forget to send those rebates in.
Though remember that you need to spend on an envelope and a stamp to send the rebate, so if a very little rebate is offered it could be a waste of money and time.
Finally remember that sometimes several coupons and rebates can be combined. For example a store may offer one rebate and the manufacturer another, so combining those will give you even more savings.
