68 Pronouncing Finnish names (Motorsport Pronunciation Guide)

The "i" in Yir is more like the vowel in "new" when it's not
pronounced to rhyme with you. (Not "noo york" but "nyew york")
Mika Salo's first syllable is a short "me". Much like you
would pronounce "mikka", I suppose. And it's not saLOW, it's
sa-loh. The Loh is short, the h is not pronounced.
Hakkinen's a is an "d", that is an umlaut-a. Pronounced mikka
hack-kih-nen. (e in nen is like in "then").
Keke Rosberg can be pronounced in two ways (at least) even
here in Finland. Keke is the same however: it's keh-keh (silent
aitches). Rosberg is either "roos-berih" (roo rhymes with moo
(sound of cow)). or roos-bdrj, where d is the vowel in "man"
and the ending "j" is very short almost un-pronounced.

Jyrki Jarvilehto (the a | yer-kee yar-vee-leh-toh (yer
                        |
(or jay-jay leh-toh)
has an umlaut-two dots) |
Mika Salo | Mee-ka Sa-low (low as in blow)
