19.7.3 What about editing?

When I was editing my post-college short vid on 3/4" U-Matic SP
(cheaper than Beta) various houses wanted anywhere from $50/hr to
$125/hr for an editing suite, no operator. Add another 30-50/hr
for an operator who will work the dials for you.

I ended up renting the equipment and assembling an edit suite in my
basement. With some haggling and creative scheduling (no charge
for weekends, pick up on Friday, drop off on Monday after 2nd
weekend = 7 days charged for 10 days possess) I got the stuff for
around $2,000.

However, I have editing experience; but even with that experience,
it took my the better part of those 10 days to cut 30 minutes. Of
course, the project was dialog heavy and that took quite a bit of
time, and I would imagine that cutting sex has to be a little more

house, there aren't many cuts, and what cuts there are almost seem
to have been done "in camera."
