Self hypnosis produces permanent weight control without dependence on deprivation diets or strenuous, potentially injurious exercise. Self hypnosis is the way to weight control without willpower.

Every time I go to the grocery store I see at least one new miracle diet heralded on the cover of every one of those magazines they display at the check-out stands. Movie stars, royalty, TV personalities, Republicans -- it seems that everyone has his or her own special method of losing weight.

I wonder about the people who read those magazines. It must have occurred to them that the presence of a new diet in every issue of every magazine means that none of the diets is working. And, since no publication has a new and different readership every issue, I have to conclude that it is roughly the same people being presented a new (and seemingly worthless) panacea every issue. Yet they keep taking the bait every time.

When these special fad diets are tested in controlled circumstances they are almost always found to be no better than any other diet. In fact, some of them are potentially injurious to the dieters.

The fact is, any diet will work if it cuts calorie consumption to a level below what the body will burn. The secret of a successful diet is not in the diet, but in the sticking to it. And that's the problem. Some people can stick to a diet long enough to lose some serious weight, but not many. Even fewer can stick with a diet long enough to reach their weight-loss goal. Of those it is a minuscule percentage who keep the weight off for any length of time.

If you have read other parts of this Web site, specifically the Weight Control pages that precede this one, you know that the real culprit in overweight is the subconscious mind. (There are lots of places in this HypnoticaWeb site that pertain to weight control. Click here to see a site Table of Contents.)

And dieting generally has only one effect on your subconscious mind: it becomes even more intransigent about its weight- and food-related fixations. This is why dieting frequently makes things worse, not better.

There are of course some people who will at some time in their lives have a minor problem with weight and for whom the problem is not subconsciously motivated. It is easy to tell if you are one of these people: You would probably not be reading this now if you were. These people simply cut back on their eating or step up their exercise a little bit and get themselves back to the weight they want. No muss, no fuss, they just do it.

On the other hand you can get a rough measure of just how firmly your subconscious mind is determined for you to be overweight by considering your past experience and present condition. The more overweight you are, and the longer you have been that way, and the more times you have failed to control your weight, then the more committed is your subconscious to your overweight condition. And the more committed is your subconscious to overweight, the more you need self hypnosis. You will never get control of your weight, certainly not on a permanent basis, until you change the subconscious need.
