Jumper Setting
==============

GoDrive GRS 80/160 AT hard disk drives can be configured as a
master or a slave drive, using either the jumper blocks on the
drive's controller board or by grounding certain lines on the inter-
face connector.

There are two sets of jumper pins. The SP is labeld "SP" for slave
present. The other set (three jumper pins) has two labels "CS" and
"DS" for Cable Select and Drive Select. The center pin is common to
both the CS and the DS positions.

When a jumper block is on the center pin and the pin nearest the
interface connector, DS is enabled. When a jumper block is on the
center pin and the pin furthest from the interface connector, CS is
enabled.

NOTE
Jumper blocks can be placed in a storage position by locating them on
one jumper pin as shown in the following Figure.

Master Drive Configuration
--------------------------
GoDrive GRS 80/160 AT hard disk drives are configured at the
factory as a master drive as defined by the CAM (Common Access
Method). This configuration is shown in the following figure.

Master Drive with Slave Present
-------------------------------
When GoDrive GRS 80/160 AT hard disk drives are configured as
a master drive, the drive looks for a slave drive by monitoring the
PDIAG/DASP lines.

 Some hard disk drives when configured as a slave do not indicate
 their presense on these two lines (GoDrive does). To indicate that a
 slave is present for these drive (when using GoDrive as a master),
 the slave present (SP) pins on GoDrive master must be jumpered as
 shown.

Cable Selection
---------------
The drive can be configured such that its status as a master or slave
drive can be determined by the cabling from the host system.

NOTE
This is extremely helpful when GoDrive GRS 80/160 AT is used
as a removable subsystem where it can be either master drive or a
slave drive depending upon the cable to which is connected.

When a GoDrive is configured for cable selection, as shown in the
Figure below, it is the master drive if Pin 28 is grounded and a
slave if Pin 28 is not grounded.

For systems that do not use Pin 28 for another purpose (e.g., Address
Latch Enabled), the host system can tie Pin 28 to ground. Then the
cable connecting the host to the master has Pin 28 enabled (i.e., a
circuit exists), while the cable connecting the slave to either the
host or the master has the Pin 28 line servered.

Systems that use Pin 28 can use the cable selection method by
performing the following:

   1. Connect the system cable in the following order
      host <--> slave <--> master.

   2. Cut the Pin 28 line between the slave and the master. This
      allow Pin 28 to operate normally (an open - served connection)
      between the host and the slave.

   3. Tie Pin 28 (within the master drive header) to a nearby ground
      (Pin 30, for example).

This process will allow the master drive to have Pin 28 grounded
while allowing the Pin 28 to be open between the host and slave
drive.

Dimensions and Mounting
-----------------------
The drive can be mounted in any orientation. Maximum screw length is
3mm with a three minimum full threads. The maximum mounting torque
for these screws is 120 inch-ounces.

NOTE
If the bottom mounting holes are used, the mating surface of the
assembly that attaches to the bottom of the GoDrive GRS 80AT must
have a flatness of 0.127 mm (0.005 inches) or better; the GoDrive GRS
160AT requires a mating surface flatness of 0.076 mm (0.003 inches).

Ventilation
-----------
GoDrive GRS 80/160AT hard disk drives can operate without a cooling
fan, provided the ambient air temperature des not exceed 55*C
(131*F). Any user-designed cabinet must provide adequate air
circulation to prevent the maximum temperature from being exceeded.

Cable Connector
---------------
GoDrive GRS 80/160AT hard disk drives have a single 2 x 22
connector (on 2mm centers) for both power and data. The connector
also includes four pins which are reserved for factory test points -
these pins must be allowed to float.

The recommended system mating connector is a Dupont part number
69764-044 or equivalent. The maximum cable length is 18 inches. To
assure that the system cable connector is installed with the proper
orientation, plug Pin 20 hole on the system connector.

Power Sequencing
----------------
GoDrive GRS 80/160-AT hard disk drives require no power sequencing.
Removing power during drive operation generally (see caution note
below) does not cause data to be lost or corrupted. Although the
drive requires no power sequencing, Quantum recommends that is a
controlled power dwon is available from the system (e.g., in a system
with an auto resume feature), a Standby command should be issued to
the drive prior to the removal of power.

CAUTION
Data may be lost or corrupted in a sector being written at the time
of a power loss.

During power-on or power-off, the drive can sustain an open or a
short circuit on either the voltage or the return line.

Electrical Interface
--------------------
All signals are TTL-compatible. A logic one is greater than 2.0 volts
and less than 5.25 volts. Logic zero is greater than 0.0 volts and
less than 0.7 volts. The drive requires no terminating resistors.

Quantum's GoDrive GRS 80AT and GoDrive GRS 160AT hard disk drives are
part of a family of high performance, 2.5-inch form factor hard disk
drives manufactured ti meet the highest product-quality standards.

GoDrive GRS 80/160AT hard disk drives feature an embedded AT drive
controller and uses AT commands to optimize system performance. Be-
cause the drive manages media defects and error recovery internally,
these operations are fully transparent to the user.

Note: The GoDrive GRS 80/160AT does not include a faceplate!

Error Reporting
---------------
At the start of a command's execution, GoDrive GRS 80/160AT hard disk
drives check the COMMAND register for any conditions that would lead
to an abort command error. The drive then attempts execution of the
command. Any new error causes execution of the command to terminate
at the point at which it occurred. The following table list the valid

The format for GoDrive GRS 80/160AT allocates one sector per cylinder
as a spare. In the factory, the media is scanned for defects. If a
sector on a cylinder found to be defective, the sector's address is
added to the drive's defect list. Sectors physically subsequent to
the defective sector are assigned logical block addresses such that
a sequential ordering of logical blocks results. This in-line sparing
technique is employed in an attempt to eliminate throughput reduction
resulting from a single defective sector on a cylinder.
