Jumper Setting
==============
x = Factory default
GoDrive GLS 85/127/170/256 S drives have a single 2 x 25 connector
(on 2mm centers) for both power and data. The connector also includes
four pins which are used as factory test points (these pins must be
allowed to float), for the SCSI device ID (J2 pins 5 through 7), and
for a drive activity LED (J2 pin 8).

Dimensions and Mounting
-----------------------
The drive can be mounted in any orientation. Maximum screw penetra-
tion is 3 mm with a minimum penetration of three full threads. The
maximum mounting torque for these screws is 40 inch-ounces.
NOTE
For optimum drive performance, the system mounting method should not
result in any disortion or twisting of the drive's base casting. For
example, if the drive is attached (via its bottom mounting holes) to
a stiff mounting surface that does not meet the GoDrive GLS flatness
requirements of 0.01 inch, then head switch times may be degraded.
The threaded holes in each of the four corners of the GoDrive GLS are
for top cover attachment only and should never be used for any other
purpose.
Ventilation
-----------
GoDrive GLS 85/127/170/256 S hard disk drives can operate without a
cooling fan, provided the ambient air temperature des not exceed 55*C
(131*F). Any user-designed cabinet must provide adequate air
circulation to prevent the maximum temperature from being exceeded.
Cable Connector
---------------
GoDrive GLS 85/127/170/256 S drives have a single 2 x 25 connector
(on 2mm centers) for both power and data. The connector also
includes four pins which are used as factory test points (these pins
must be allowed to float) for the SCSI device ID (J2 pins 5 through
7), and for a drive activity LED (J2 pin 8).
The recommended system mating connector is a 3M Series 150 50-pin
connector or equivalent. The maximum cable length is 18 inches. The
maximum cable length is 12 inches. To assure that the system cable
connector is installed with the proper orientation, plug Pin 17
hole on the J1 system connector.
QUANTUM GODRIVE GLS 85/127/170/256 S PRODUCT MANUAL 84-103563-02
General Description
-------------------
Quantum's GoDrive GLS 85/127/170/256 S hard disk drives provide
the high capacity, performance and reliability required by today's
advanced 386- and 486-based notebook computers. The GoDrive GLS
products offer outstanding performance, with fast time-to-data and
outstanding sustained data transfer rates. These drives also offer
low power consumption (0.2 watts standby). Fast spin-up times from
the standby mode help conserve power and improve system response
time.
The GoDrive GLS hard disk drives provide extensive error correction
capability, with features such as ECC on-the-fly which minimizes the
impact of recoverable errors on throughput. The GoDrive GLS products
feature highly reliable one,- two- and three-disk designs supported
by a projected field MTBF of more than 350,000 hours. A one-year
warranty is standard on GoDrive GLS drives purchased directly from
Quantum or a authorized distributor or dealer.

SSID - SOFTWARE SELECTABLE ID (Byte 3, Bit 3):
When set to zero, SSID indicates the SCSI ID will be determined
by the value set using the hardware ID select. When SSID is set to
one, the drive SCSI ID is determined by the value set in SCSIADR
(Byte 3, bits 2-0). The default is zero.
SCSIADR - SCSI Address (Byte 3, Bits 2-0):
When SSID (bit 3 of byte 3) is set to one, SCSIADR determines the
drive's SCSI ID. When chaning the SCSI ID with the MODE SELECT
command, the SCSI ID will change immediately. If at initial power
on, the SSID bit is set to one - that is, if this bit's previous
setting was saved on the disk - the SCSIADR bit will determine the
drive's SCSI ID. The default is zero.
Number of Defects
-----------------
The factory limit for the number of defects per surface is 42 or one
per megabyte of surface capacity. Any spare capacity not consumed at
the factory is available for reallocation of field grown defects.
The logical block address of a sector found defective in the field is
reassigned thus maintaining the Defect Free Interface. It is
reassigned to a spare sector physically closet to the defective
sector. The physical address of the defective sector is added to the
defect list. The defect list provides for a maximum of 292 entries.
