Jumper Setting
===============

Interface Description
---------------------
The interface is an AT Attachment interface, ANSI X3T9.2, ATA 3.3.
It uses a 44/50 pin connector, such as the Dupont Mini-Tek series
P/N 86455-350. The signal levels are TTL compatible unless otherwise
noted. Reserved pins should be left unconnected. Below is a
description of the pinout definition.

PDIAG Pin 34 Drive Diagnostics
------------------------------
Asserted by drive 1 to indicate to drive 0 that it has completed
diagnostics. A 10K pull-up resistor is used on this signal at the
drive.

DASP- Pin 39 Drive Active/Slave Present
---------------------------------------
Time multiplexed to indicate that a drive is active or that drive 1
is present.

Spindle Motor
-------------
The drive's motor is designed for the rugged portable environment. It
is built into the HDA base casting and not just installed as with
other drives. The spindle motor bearings are the same size as those
used in 2.5" drives, yet the MiniStor drive has one third the mass
being held by those bearings. The larger bearings size results in a
greater surface area supporting shock loads. The reason for the large
bearings is to prevent any damage from large shock loads.

Features

MINISTOR AT ATTACHMENT PRODUCT MANUAL 830000500 VER. 1.1 5/1994

Introduction
------------
The MiniStor AT Attachment drives are 1.8" subminiature ruggedized
high performance disk drives designed for the portable and mobile
computing environment.

 Key Features
 ------------
 ImpacSAFE(TM)
Built-in technology to prevent data loss or corruption from shock
   and vibration.

 Rugged and Reliable
200G operating and non-operating shock resistance ensures reliable
operation in demanding portable computing environments.

 High Performance
16ms average seek time, 6.72ms average latency and advanced caching
   algorithms for fast data access.

Electro-Mechanical Latch
------------------------
The MiniStor latch is a static bistable latch. In other words, the
latch can be in either of two stable conditions, which require no
other forces to remain in those conditions. Below is a brief
description of the latch operation from power-up to power-down.

When power is supplied to the drive the latch coil is energized. The
EMF generated overcomes the preload of the engaged latch, and the
latch rotates to the stable open position. The coil is then
deenergized. The latch is held in the open position by magnetic
attraction.

On power down, the servo circuit is given an autoretract command.
As the actuator moves toward the landing zone the actuator arm
mechanically engages the latch to the stable closed position.

Shock Sensor
------------
The Shock Sensor uses an electromechanical transducer that turns off
write current preventing data corruption, when the drive is subjected
to a high g force.
