In case you were in a coma during the early 80s (and weren't we all), Jodie
Foster's first real film was Taxi Driver, in which Robert De Niro goes
nuts, stalks a politican, and ends up shooting people. It was a very
popular movie, and a lot of people saw it, including John Hinkley, who
became obsessed with Jodie Foster, and ended up shooting Reagan in an
attempt to impress her.
There is a fair amount of irony in the fact that Jodie Foster should play
the role of an FBI agent who tracks down a serial killer, since she kinda
owes the country one. Of course, even braver of Foster was when she
appeared on The X-Files, playing the voice inside an insane man's head.
