Use:

Bupropion or Zyban is use to reduce withdrawal symptoms experienced in smoking cessation. Bupropion or Zyban is marketed under the name Wellbutrin as an antidepressant.

How It Works:

Bupropion or Zyban acts at the nervous system level to counteract the symptoms of withdrawal - irritability, dizziness. It also seems to reduce the urge to smoke.

Side Effects:

Because Bupropion or Zyban's effect is on the nervous system, its side effects are also related to the nervous system - drowsiness, dizziness. The degree of side effects may vary widely from person to person.

Cautions for People:

People using other drugs that affect the nervous system or that have nervous system conditions should use Bupropion or Zyban with care.

Drug Interactions:

In combination with other drugs that affect the nervous system, Bupropion or Zyban can enhance nervous system effects. For smoking cessation, Bupropion or Zyban can be used with nicotine replacement therapy - this will increase the success rate.
