Hello, great web site.

Just finished reading about silver filling removal protocol and I am now very unsettled because I just had nine silver fillings removed and no precautions were taken. He drilled them out, no water or air, and then I just spit out the silver fillings and rinsed my mouth.

This happened two weeks ago. Is my health in danger? Should I be doing something now?

Please write, thanks.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been abused this way. Please don't panic. Research shows that immediate side effects are rare. It is the long-term retention of mercury in your system that could lead to health problems, too many in my opinion.

Your problem is not unique I am sorry to say. Unfortunately, millions of people have experienced the same thing. It is not responsible, in my opinion, for dentists to grind up old fillings and feed them to patients who are rightfully concerned about unnecessary exposure to mercury and other metal alloys found in many fillings and crowns.

Have you read my book, How To Save Your Teeth with Toxic Free Preventive Dentistry? You can order it from the Preventive Dental Health Association by calling 888-728-3833. There is a two page list of minerals and vitamins to take. Many physicians in the alternative health care movement are very aware of the problem and how to treat it.

What To Do Now?

1. Seek an immediate evaluation with a knowledgeable physician.

I, as a dentist, am licensed to place poison (mercury, fluoride) in the body. I am not licensed to remove the poison because dentists may not, by law, practice medicine. The removal of that poison is the responsibility of a licensed physician, nutritionist, and any other professional.

Treatment of mercury poisoning is medical care and restricted to everyone BUT the dentist. Your neighbor, minister, wife, grandfather virtually anyone but your dentist can advise you to get your mercury/silver fillings out. The ADA changed the code of ethics so the dentist cannot "ethically" advise you to have your fillings removed.

2. Join the AMALGAM mailing list and ask questions. Also, their FAQ and Archives are a gold mine of information.

My Opinion

In my opinion and not as medical advice but only as common sense, drink lots of clean pure water. Mercury is stored in the kidney. That is where damage can quickly be seen.

Have the urine checked for a unique porphorin which indicates early kidney changes.

Measure blood but it is almost too late to see anything there without a baseline. Molin found in '90 that removal of amalgam according to the normal protocol of the ADA (rubber dam, water spray and suction) increased blood mercury. This is potentially a severe problem during pregnancy or during neurological development and nursing. Blood mercury is released into the fetus and mothers milk.

Amalgam releases mercury into every tissue of the body. Removal of mercury from the brain has proven the most difficult problem and one where controversy still exists.

What a Shame!

I know that what happened to you is a crying shame. Mercury was first measured coming off fillings in 1926 by Dr. Alfred Stock. It's use should have stopped then. Why are we still arguing about the obvious. Boyd Haley said it best. "Arguing about the safety of mercury/silver amalgam with dentists is like arguing with the town drunk."

They are mercury poisoned. Why are we asking them?
