Guided Imagery: Cautions
- Guided imagery
generally is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, from
children to the elderly. However, people who suffer from some
form of mental illness, particularly people who are prone to hallucinations,
should discuss the process in advance with a trained therapist.
If you ever experience disturbing images or memories during a
session, you may also wish to discuss the experience with a trained
therapist.
- Choose images
that are pleasant to you. If you know in advance that an image
may be disturbing, let your practitioner know. If you're participating
in a group session, feel free to sit out the exercise.
