Levorphanol Description

Levorphanol Description

Generic Name : LEVORPHANOL

Trade Name(s) :

Why it is prescribed: Levorphanol is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

When it is to be taken: Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully. Levorphanol relieves pain for up to eight hours.

How it should be taken: Levorphanol comes in the form of tablets. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose.

Special Instruction :

1. Levorphanol can be habit-forming. Do not take it more often or for a longer period than your doctor tells you to, and do not take more than the amount prescribed at each dose.

2. This medication can cause drowsiness and decrease mental alertness. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how it affects you.

Side Effects :

1. Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness. Lie down for a while. If these effects continue or severe, contact your doctor.

2. Constipation, difficulty urintaing. Contact your doctor.

3. Difficulty breathing, faintness. Alert family members or some other person who is likely to be nearby to call your doctor immediately if you have these problems.

Other Precautions :

1. If you are allergic to codeine or any other medication, tell your doctor before you take levorphanol.

2. Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking.

3. Do not take pain relievers, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, antidepressants, sedatives, or any other medications while taking levorphanol unless your doctor specifically tells your that you may.

4. Alcoholic beverages can add to the drowsiness and stomach irritation caused by this drug.

5. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should inform their doctors. 6. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Storage Conditions :

1. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.

2. Store it at room temperature and away from light.
