I'm asking for a little advice.
I'm in the market for a new sander and am interested in the new random
orbit sanders that are available (I don't have a compressor, so I
can't use the "air" ones out there). I've narrowed the choice down to
two: The Porter-Cable
#7334 and the Bosch #3283.
The Porter-Cable version draws more amps (3.7) but produces "only"
6000 RPM. It uses standard 5" "stickit" paper. (~$12 for 50)
The Bosch version draws only 2.3 amps, but is variable speed between
8000 and 11,000 RPM. It uses Velcro backed paper as is quite expensive
(~$4 for 5).
I think that the Bosch may produce a better finish due to it's faster
speed, but the price of disks is high and I don't know if it will
accept the cheaper "Stickit" 5" disks. The Bosch also seems better
balanced and has good dust pickup. The P-C model doesn't have dust
pickup and looks more like a grinder whereas the Bosch looks like a
car buffer. I like the P-C having more power.
Anyway, cost of the two are close (~$119) so the choice is really
which one would be better. I would appreciate any feedback that anyone
has...
