I find it hard to believe that this random orbital sander does as good a
job as advertized. Seems to me that the random motion will cut against
the wood grain...a mortal woodworking sin. Sure, it may be swirl free, but
don't you get some other kind of unwanted mark that needs sanding out later?
Am I missing something??
This sander sounds like the perfect answer to sanding "butt joints" flush.
If I understand this sander correctly, the sanding direction with respect
to the wood grain is inconsequential. Thus, in a "butt joint" where the
two wood grains are perpendicular to each other, you could sand directly
over the joint and not get any sanding marks against the grains.
By the way, what is rec.woodworking's consensus on sanding butt joints
flush and clean?
