I must point out that there must be thousands of woodworkers
(myself and my father included) who work in basements with a gas furnace,
and who have never experienced any problems. While I have heard of
grain elevators blowing up, I have never heard of a home blowing up
because of sawdust and a gas furnace. I am no ventillation expert,
but I suspect that the air provided to keep the furnace from asphixiating
the occupants probably does an excellent job of keeping sawdust levels
low.
It is my understanding that grain elevator explosions are a
special case where there is a tremendous concentration of very dry
dust with no ventillation. I don't think that saw dust in basements
presents any significant danger.
