First, I'd like to thank everyone that responded to my recent request
for recommendations on which tool to buy after a tablesaw. I'd pretty
much decided to go with the Jet 14" bandsaw, though the Grizzly 6"
jointer was a contender.
I ended up buying an old Boice Crane scrollsaw. (I know, it's not one
of the sexy new constant-tension machines, but this saw is a cast iron
junkie's dream.) 24" throat, 20x20 table, everything but the stand is
cast iron. I don't know what the model number is, and I'm not sure
exactly how old it is (there's a patent number on one of the castings
in the low 2 millions). I don't have a manual.
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who knows anything about Boice
Crane (I understand they're still in business in Toledo, Ohio), e.g.,
their address or phone number, or their scrollsaws, in particular. It
doesn't have a motor, and I'm not sure what size/kind I need. Also,
it looks like the blade clamps have been fiddled-with and there are
some pieces I haven't identified.
