97 Router Recommendations Wanted

Apologies if this has all been done before; in which case perhaps
some kind soul (with obviously unlimited disk space) would e-mail the
results. I am interested in aquiring a new router and am interested
in people's opinions/experiences etc. Research to date suggests that
I want something with a 1/2" collet, 2-3 H.P., electronic (soft-start).
I would like to table mount it (no snickering please) as well as work
free-hand, use it for raised panels and t'would be nice if it had plunge
capability as well. Leather uphostery and high-end stereo system are, of
course, desirable :-).
