Just a note about something to consider: I bought the videotape from Fine
Woodworking which illustrates how to build a Shaker table. The tape
features Kelley Mehler, a professional woodworker from Kentucky. In the
tape Mehler uses a plunge router to make mortises for the table rails. He
particularly mentions that in a heavy router (>3hp) a nice feature is the
"soft" startup available on some models. I don't know if the Makita has
this but Mehler's Ryobi did and I know the (electronically controlled)
variable speed Bosch has this feature as well.
