The Ryobi AP-10 has received a number of good reviews. I know a patternmaker
who uses it for smaller stuff and has been surprised at it's reliability
and quality. He also has a huge cast-iron Oliver planar so he's used to
big equipment performance. I've seen it for as low as $345 from mail-order
places in Fine Woodworking. I believe it has a 10" x 6" capacity which
is good for most projects around the home
