After spending lots of time in the jointer reviews by FW, Wood etc
magazines I purchased the Ryobi 6" jointer. It is a great tool as far as the
portability and smoothness of the planeing is concerned. Light weight and the
small size is the big plus. The noise is a BIG minus. I knew about the
noise in advance but not the actual magnitude. The FW has indicated that
its universal motor produces router type noise but my router is a silence
compared with Ryobi at the high speeds.
While I do not mind wearing ear protections, I am concerned about
my neighbours and family members. Is there any way to dampen this noise
short of insulation the whole shop (It is a rental very unfinished basement)?
