37 info needed about jointer planers like Kity, Minimax.

I am considering a purchase of a jointer and planer, partly to
save the cost of the lumber and partly to improve the quality
of the finish/reduce scrapping/sanding. I looked at the Wood
mag which evaluated various power tools. They talked briefly
about the multi purpose machines like the ones made by Kity,
Minimax and some other German makes. I would like to know how
these machines compare with separate planers and jointers.
Also are these machines in the class of ShopSmith or Delta or
in the class of the cheaper ones.
