I too have been looking at the Grizzly 16" band saw... pretty much for
the same reason. I do, however, I want to emphasize *looking* and not
buying. Since I intend to use the saw for re-sawing some rosewood
planks, I had some misgivings regarding the 14" Delta and other
far-east clones. However, after ordering Grizzly's G1201 drill press
($435 + $108 in shipping!) I just about choked at the 20% surcharge
for delivery! Note here that the drill press weighs in at a heafty
330lbs, which is almost identicle to the band saw, and I do live in
Fla, and not in Pa. Still, I only have to pay $450 to ship a new car
here from Detroit... which a little math will tell you comes to about
$.15/lb for a 3000lb vehicle... (compared to Grizzly's $.33/lb)
So, the moral of this saga is to consider the shipping as an
additional cost of an extra $108 (20%) is not trivial!!!
On another note, I noticed in the latest cat. from Trendlines that
they have a picture of the Reliant brand 16" band saw (listing for
about $500 less options) which looks *IDENTICAL* to the grizzly. Even
their nameplate occupies the same location as the Grizzly. They also
addvertise an $30 "extra frieght" charge.
