I have been considering purchasing a bandsaw for quite a while
now. It may be quite a while longer before I actually break
down and do it. In my perusal of the wish books (a.k.a. catalogs)
I have come up with questions concerning the saws produced by
Delta. They apparently have 4 models available (for wood anyway)
Open stand 1/2 HP motor
Open stand 3/4 HP motor
Open stand 1 HP motor
Closed stand 3/4 HP motor
(I don't have the model numbers readily available)
I have also seen "upgrade" kits for extending the height of the
saw, and increasing the HP of the motors, intended for resawing.
The advertisement that I saw had a disclaimer, stating that the
1 HP motor could not be used for the closed stand saw. Here
are my questions:
(1) Is the saw mechanism identical for both the open stand
and the closed stand models? Is the stand the only thing
different between these?
(2) Why can't the 1 HP motor be put on the closed stand version?
Is there insufficient space inside the enclosure? Is it
not reccommended, or not possible?
(3) Can the speed be adjusted on these saws (by changing a belt
on pulleys) or is it fixed at 1 speed?
