This article is from the Textile Related Books FAQ, by Lara J. Fabans lfabans@adobe.com with numerous contributions by others.
This book is a worthwhile investment for any sewer who
has a few hours of free time to read through it. It's just a list of tips
many of which may be new. Topics include:
organizing your sewing room and fabric (ha!)
dealing with short yardage
testing (guessing!) fiber content
pins, needles, threads, pressing aids (including improvised aids)
freezer paper for careful piecing
using the rub-off technique to copy a garment (quite useful!)
topstitching
flat felled seams
tab plackets (e.g. on shirt cuff)
elastic
zippers
button loops and other fasteners (incl. Chinese ball buttons and frogs)
ruffles
bias cut garments
single thread tucks and darts
edges and hems
I recommend this book for anyone who wants to grab a few more ideas.
