Mr. Allen is deeply private and not a "joiner." Every year the Academy
invites him to join, and every year he respectfully declines. He plays
clarinet every Monday night when not shooting a movie, so he always has a
prior commitment.
He has, however, received many nominations and received a few Academy
Awards.
