Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art (1995)
by Diane Stein

Diane Stein's work gives a comprehensive look at the three levels of Reiki, offering help for the novice, the student, and the Reiki instructor. Her book is sectioned into three parts, the contents of each section coinciding with the three degrees of Usui Reiki, a traditional healing system.

Part one offers the story of Reiki, historically passed down over hundreds of years from healer to healer orally, along with its chronological time line. Reiki in general is defined, also shown are step by step hand positions for giving self-treatment, healing others and participating in group healings. A single page chart indicates probable emotional sources of given diseases or physical location of pain.

Breaking with tradition in section two, Diane Stein, exposes the secretive Japanese Kanji symbols hidden from non-Reiki persons prior to her book's publication. This breaking of the rules initially caused controversy in the Reiki community of healers. Absentia healing and discussion regarding connections with spirit guide helpers is also explained. Separate Ki exercises for women and men are explored.

Part three serves as a manual for the Reiki instructor. The additional Master symbols beyond those given in Reiki II are shared. Tibetan Buddhist definition of all five symbols are summarized. The attunement process is fully explained from the view of the receiver as well as the one performing one.

Diane, a Reiki master/teacher since 1990, writes of her own experiences of teaching and passing attunements to her students. She is a respected teacher of women's spirituality and healing skills.

Reiki Fire (1997)
by Frank Arjava Petter

Reiki Fire is an absolutely practical Reiki guide. The heart, the body, the mind, and the esoteric background; it is all here. It is an excellent Reiki textbook, fresh and rousing in its spiritual perspective.

Hands of Light (1988)
by Barbara Ann Brennan

Hands of Light is a scientist's look at the field of bioenergetic healing, offering specific techniques towards expanding perceptual tools of healing, seeing auras, understanding psychodynamics and the human energy field, and spiritual healing. Trained as a physicist and psychotherapist, Brennan has spent the last 15 years studying the human energy field and working as a healer. Hands of Light goes beyond conventional, objective knowledge while retaining scientific clarity. It details a study of the human energy field and how it is intimately connected to a person's health and well being and contains essential information for anyone involved in healing and conscious health care, including people seeking to heal themselves. Science and spirituality may currently be at odds, but fortunately there will always be scientists who are spiritual seekers, and it is in the mingling of the two worlds where wisdom is born. --Jodie Buller

Light Emerging (1993)
by Barbara Ann Brennan

Brennan instructs on how to work with the "human energy field," which involves the seven chakras and the aura, to cure various physical and emotional problems. Readers searching for ways of healing that go beyond the orthodox will be best able to use this book and because Brennan's discussion is long and involved, at once fascinating and confusing, it may well attract the most devoted anyway. Despite a nod from Bernie Siegel, and evidence throughout that Brennan's methods can be effective, discussions of how people "grow cords" that obstruct relationships or why you should soak used jewelry in saltwater to destroy negative energy are sure to have skeptics shaking their heads. Brennan is not only a therapist and healer, but also a former research scientist for NASA, which would seem to lend her credibility.

Reiki (2000)
by William Lee Rand

The knowledge that an unseen energy flows through all living things and directly affects the quality of health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. The existence of this "life energy" has been verified by recent scientific experiments, and medical doctors are considering the role it plays in the functioning of the immune system and the healing process.

Reiki, a technique for stress reduction that also promotes healing, allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of "life energy." Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, early in the 20th Century. Reiki is easy to learn. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radience that flows through you and surrounds you. It creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. Many have reported miraculous results. Hospitals and doctors' offices are beginning to include it as part of their therapy, and this new edition describes several successful approaches now being used across the US to integrate Reiki into patient care.

This revised and expanded edition includes important new information on the theory and practice of Reiki, including the Japanese Reiki Techniques taught by Dr. Usui as well as the Hayashi healing guide. Also included are pictures of the Usui Memorial in Tokyo, and of Mt. Kurama where Reiki was rediscovered.

This book is a must for anyone wanting the latest information on Reiki. Its referenced history of Reiki contains the most detailed and verfiable information currently available. Written with inspiration, clarity and vitality, it captures the essence of Reiki and is an excellent introduction to the subject as well as a user-friendly manual for the experienced practitioner.
