05 What kind of questions may be asked here?

Any question relating to any aspect of C or C++ that you're having trouble understanding is on topic here. By C, what is meant is the language PROPER and its standard library as defined by ANSI and ISO. C++ discussions are about the proposed language standard (that recently passed its formal vote) and the library it defines. Any questions relating to specific compilers, third-party or non- standard libraries, compiler extensions etc are unwelcome here, and will probably be answered with a redirection to a more appropriate newsgroup.

If you've been thus redirected, do not get miffed or upset and post an angry response - it will cut no ice with the regulars and will only label you as an unwilling learner. What's discussed in this group is rigidly defined to limit the traffic and make the group useful to as wide a possible audience as possible.
