5.1. What strokes are permissible?

Any stroke is allowed in triathlons as long as you are not using an
artificial means to propel yourself through the water.

The most common and efficient stroke is freestyle. Breaststroke,
however, is often performed by people who either have trouble with
freestyle or are resting.
