If anyone has done or read of any experiments showing that
deep-cycling a NiCad >shortens its lifecycle, we'd all like to hear
from you.
The 1989 _Annual Reviews of Energy_ (what a great book!) has an
article about energy storage in which this claim appears. The article
cites a load of references, but I don't remember if any of them have
to do with the Ni-Cd "memory" phenomenon. Anyway, that would be a
place to start looking...
