Jumper Setting
==============
Master/Slave Configuration
--------------------------
By using the CSEL pin (PIN 28) and the optional jumper J2 beside the
interface connector, two units can be connected on a cable in a daisy
chain.
When J2 is open, the drive runs as master drive and CSEL does not
affect the definition. When J2 is closed, CSEL affects the
definition. If CSEL is negated then the drive runs as master drive.
If CSEL is asserted the the drive runs as slave drive.
In case of two drive connection, one should be a master and another
should be a slave. In case of single drive connection, it should be
defined as master.
Both master and slave drive are allocated onto same I/O area and
identified by Drive bit in DRVH register. Host system writes into
register on both drives but reads register only from a selected
drive.
Only the selected drive can execute the command except Diagnose
command. Diagnose is executed on both drives and the result of slave
drive is transferred to master drive through PDIAG line. Master
drive reports both results to host system.

Notes On Installation

The drive will operate in all axis (6 directions).
Installation
------------
The drive should be mounted carefully on the surface of 0.1 mm
flatness or less to avoid excessive distortion. It is recommended
the space greater than 1 mm is kept under the PCB and it is important
to check enough for safe design to prevent short- circuit under any
circumstances. Enough room to avoid any mechanical interference
when receiving shock or vibration is required especially around the
convex portion in the HDA. The temperature of the top cover and the
base must be kept under 60*C at any moment to maintain the desired
reliability. (When the drive is running frequently, the temperature
of the top cover may be rising by 15*C maximum. If the drive is used
in 45*C or more ambient temperature, it is advisable to maintain
adequate ventilation to keep top cover under 60*C.)
The M3 mounting screw holes are tapped directly on the aluminium
portion of HDA for electrical ground. The other are tapped on the
plastic portion for electrical insulation. Screw holes for mounting
can be determined by the evaluation results of the electromagnetic
noise emitted from the host system to drive. The breathing hole
should be kept open after mounting. A maximum force of 2N should be
allowed on the top cover to avoid the drive damage.
The drive is using several parts which can be easily damaged by ESD
(Electric Static Discharge), so do not touch the interface
connector pins and the surface of PCB.
Screwing
--------
Four screws should be tightened equally with 0.3N.m (3 kgf.cm)
torque. The depth should be 3.0 mm min. 3.5mm maximum.

Twisted pair type cable is recommended as follows:

Characteristic impedance 100-132

Grounding
---------
HDA (Head Disk Assembly) and DC ground (ground pins on interface)
are electrically connected each other.
TOSHIBA MK-2101MAN PRODUCT SPECIFICATION 71Y102945
General Description
-------------------
The MK2101MAN comprises a series of intelligent disk drives,
hereinafter referred to as the MK2101MAN or simply as the drive.
The drive features an ATA-2/ATA-3 interface embedded controller that
requires a simplified adapter board for interfacing to an AT or AT
compatible bus. The drives employ Winchester technology and a cloosed
loop servo control system to realize recording density of 1.35 Mbit/
mm (874 Mbit/inch ) and average access time of 13 msec with highest
reliability of 300,000 hours for MTTF (Mean Time to Failuree).
It features smallest and lightest drive with 19mm height half foot-
print of market standard 3.5" type micro FDD and 220 grams of weight.
The MK2101MAN consists of an HDA (Head Disk Assembly) and a printed
circuit board. The HDA is a sealed module and contains a disk
spindle assembly, a head actuator assembly and an air filtration
system. Reliability is enhanced through the use of Winchester
technology. The actuator is a rotary voice coil motor and provides
high-speed access.
The disk is driven directly by a DC spindle motor. Air filtration is
provided by means of a high performance air filtration system using
both breather and circulation filters.
The drive provides a carriage lock mechanism which is activated
automatically upon power down, thus preventing head/media damage
during non-operating or transportation conditions.
The printed circuit board is located externally to the HDA and
contains all the electric circuitry necessary to operate the drive
except the head drivers. This board contains the power supply and
interface signal connectors. Only the head control IC's are located
within the HDA. The circuitry perform the following functions:
Read/Write, Task File Control, Spindle Motor Control, Seek and Head
Positioning Servo Control, Abnormal Condition Detection and Shock
Sensor Control.
