Jumper Setting
==============
x = Jumper set at factory
Jumpers ------- +---------+ There are a total of 4 jumpers mounted adjacent to | o o o o | the 40 way interface connector. They have the | o o o o | following functions and are described in the order +---------+ as viewed from the end of the drive, with the first L L L L jumper described nearest the 40 way interface K K K K connector: 2 1 4 5
LK2 LED -------- When fitted this jumper connects the LED to pin 39 of the inter- face.
LK1 Dual Drives ---------------- This jumper must be fitted to the Master when two drives are attached to a single bus. It allows the Master to sense that a slave has been attached.
LK4 Master ----------- When fitted this signifies that the drive jumpered is a Master. If two drives are connected on a single bus then only one drive may be jumpered in this way.
LK5 IOChRdy. ------------ When fitted this connects the IOChRdy signal from the drive to the interface. It is fitted when the drive is used in host systems that have a higher data transfer rate than the drive i.e. greater than 4 MBytes per second using a 1:1 interleave.
There are four possible configurations in which a drive may be
jumpered:
1. Master, single drive with LED on interface LK2 & LK4 fitted 2. Master, single drive no LED on interface LK4 only fitted 3. Master, dual drive no LED on interface LK4 & LK1 fitted or Slave, dual drive no LED on interface no jumpers fitted 4. Master, dual drive with LED on interface LK4, LK1 & LK2 fitted or Slave, dual drive with LED on interface LK2 only fitted
The Master drive will always delay power-up by two seconds approximately to ensure that power surges on the +12V supply are minimised in a dual drive environment.
LED Connection -------------- There are two connections to be made to the LED on LED+ and LED-, the the two pins closest to the flexible circuit connector. This is an open drain output with a sink capability of 40 mA. No external current limiting resistor is necessary in this application. When a LED is connected on the interface (pin 39), an external current limiting resistor is required to be placed in series between pin 39 and the +5V supply. The value of the current limiting resistor is dependant on the LED used and is typically 130 Ohms.

Notes On Installation
=====================
Mounting Orientation
--------------------
The drive may be mounted in a system in any orientation.
When installing the drive into an enclosure, the breather holes on
the drive top cover must not be obstructed.
There must be at least 0.1 inch clearance between the drive housing
and the host frame to ensure functional vibration isolation.
The drive may be mounted in either vertical or horizontal orienta-
tion. It is supplied complete with anti-vibration mounts and threaded
mounting brackets.
Physical Description
--------------------
The user interface, is a 40 pin header with pin 20 removed to allow
for polarisation. Up to two drives may be connected per interface
cable.
Cable Requirements
------------------
A 40-conductor flat cable shall be used. The maximum cable length
shall be two feet.
Connector Requirements
----------------------
The user interface cable connector shall be a 40 conductor connector
consisting of two rows of 20 female contacts with adjacent contacts
0.1 inch apart. The 3M P/N 3417-6040 or equivalent is suggested. A
polarising key should be fitted to pin 20 of the connector.
The power connector is a 4 pin AMP Mate-N-Lock type mounted on the
end on the PCB. The recommended mating connector is AMP P/N
1-480424-0 socket housing, using AMP pin P/N 350078-4, or equivalent.
Transfer Rate
-------------
Data Transfer Rate Disk <-> Buffer : 1.25-1.5 MBytes/second
Data Transfer Rate Buffer <-> Host : 4.0 MBytes/second
(with disk transfer taking place simultaneously i.e. concurrent)
Data Transfer Rate Buffer <-> Host : 6.0 MBytes/second
(Buffer to host transfer only i.e. non-concurrent)

General Features
----------------
The RO3009A series of disk drives are random access storage devices
which uses between two and five 95mm magnetic disks to provide 46,
70, 105, 112, 163 & 210 Million bytes of formatted on-line storage.
- an 64 KByte dual ported FIFO buffer with look-ahead and zero- latency read algorithm. - 2.7 RLL coding. - 46 to 210 MBytes formatted capacity (M = 1 Million) - High performance rotary voice coil actuator with dedicated and embedded servo system. - Emulates IBM Task File. - Translate Mode. - 1:1 Interleave factor. - Data transfer rates up to 4 MBytes per second concurrent and 6 MBytes per second non-concurrent. - Automatic defect management.
Rotational Parameters
---------------------
Disk Rotational Speed : 3600 36 RPM
Spin-up time : 12 Seconds maximum
Spin down time : 30 Seconds maximum
Access Time
-----------
Single Seek : 5 milliSeconds (average)
Average Seek : 18 milliSeconds (typical)
Average Seek : 20 milliSeconds (maximum)
1225 Cylinders : 38 milliSeconds (typical)
1225 Cylinders : 42 milliSeconds (maximum)
Drive Life
----------
The minimum drive service life is 36,000 power on hours. The drive is
capable of 10,000 start/stop operations during service life.
MTBF
----
The Mean time between failure (MTBF) of any of the Rodime RO3009A
drives shall exceed 30,000 Hours.
Service Goals
-------------
No preventative maintenance is required, and there are no adjustments
on the drive. The repairs that may be effected on-site are replace-
ment of the electronics board. The mean time to repair (MTTR) includ-
ing initial verfication is 0.25 Hours.
Data Reliability
----------------
The read error rates quoted below assume that the data has been veri
fied as written correctly and all media defects flagged. Furthermore
the drive must be operating within the specified operational environ-
ment.
Recoverable data error rate : 1 in 10(10) bits read
Non recoverable error rate : 1 in 10(12) bits read
Unrecoverable error rate : 1 in 10(14) bits read
A recoverable error is defined as one which can be correctly read by
re-reading the data.
A non-recoverable error is defined as one where the ECC has to be
applied in order to give the correct data.
An unrecoverable error is defined as one which cannot be recovered by
either re-reading the data or by application of the ECC.
LED Error Codes --------------- Code Definition -------+---------------------------------------------------- 06 hex |After stepping the maximum number of cylinders, the |drive could not achieve correct track zero status. 07 hex |The spindle motor did not start at power up 08 hex |Spindle motor failed initial +/-1% speed check at |power up. 0A hex |No track crossing signal during seek. 0B hex |No servo data 0C hex |+12V supply failure
All the above error codes are designated as FATAL, and resetting of
the drive can only be done by powering the drive off then back on
again.
If the drive has an FATAL error, it will switch off power to both the
voice coil and spindle motor and flash the external LED. The drive
will still respond to commands sent across the interface, but will
not execute any of them except READ & WRITE BUFFER, IDENTIFY and
DIAGNOSTIC/SET PARAMETERS commands. A short duration flash of the LED
signifies a '0' whilst a longer duration denotes a '1'.
