Use:

Clopidogrel or Plavix is indicated for the secondary prevention of myocardial infarctions (heart attacks), stroke, and other vascular events. It is considered secondary to drugs such as acetylsalicylic acid (ASA).

How It Works:

Clopidogrel or Plavix inhibits platelet aggregation which may lead to heart attacks, stroke, and other vascular events.

Side Effects:

Because Clopidogrel or Plavix inhibits platelet aggregation it prolongs bleeding time. Skin rashes, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, and gastro intestinal bleeding have also been reported.

Cautions for People:

People at increased risk for bleeding problems should use Clopidogrel or Plavix with care.

Drug Interactions:

Concurrent use of other drugs that also affect bleeding, for example heparin, warfarin, ASA, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, must be closely monitored.
