Use:

Modafinil, Provigil or Alertec is indicated for excessive daytime drowsiness due to narcolepsy.

How It Works:

Modafinil, Provigil or Alertec is a central nervous system stimulant, but is not related to amphetamines.

Side Effects:

Modafinil, Provigil or Alertec is associated with the following side effects - headache, nausea, anxiety, increased blood pressure and heart rate, insomnia. Modafinil, Provigil or Alertec must be taken early in the day to avoid sleep disturbances.

Cautions for People:

Modafinil, Provigil or Alertec does have an abuse potential and thus may have limited used for some individuals.

Drug Interactions:

Modafinil, Provigil or Alertec is able to decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives because it increases the metabolism of oral contraceptive hormones by the liver. An adjustment in oral contraceptive therapy may be required.
