Polygala spp.

There are several spp. of Polygala ranging in their habitat from xerophytic to mesophytic areas. Those of the drier regions are generally employed or used in the treatment against snakebite, perhaps due to a more thickened and extensive root system. The stem is sometimes used in the preparation. It is reportedly used as an expectorant and cough remedy.
