I've got the top-of-line craftsman, works ok but nothing special & no 1/2 collet.
Run-out on the bit is too much for really accurate work (maybe the bit & not
the collet, though). 1/2 collet is really nice for lock miter, panel raising,
anything that removes a lot of wood (& you need the HP to power it).

I would recommend the 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 HP Bosch; either is very durable & should
be available for $95-$120 (mail order or locally on sale; in Portland one store
puts them on sale every other month).

I am currently agonizing over either the Bosch or one of the Japanese 2+HP
plunge routers (Makita, Ryobi, Hitachi). The Bosch would be better for
most work, esp. when using a router table; it's really simple. However,
the plunge capability would be great for things like mortising (morticing?),
but more difficult for use with a table. Also, these run $160-$200.
