I have a Milwaukee router and I think it's one of the finest tools I
own. Several months ago Woodsmith came out with an article about
router collets. It discussed problems associated with various
collet designs. Essentially all collets are far from equal and as I
recall Sears was about the worst and Porter Cable was not considered
very good either. 1/2" collets are superior to 1/4" collets, primarily
because the large collets contact more surface area of the bits
shaft.
According to the article the best collet made by far was the
Milwaukee collet. Now the Milwaukee router is expensive but I
have seen the model 5660 mail order for $175. That one comes
with a 1/4" collet. I had to buy the 1/2" collet separate.
