The best manual I have found on performing adjustments and alignments
(if I can post this before Peter Bain does :-)) is:
Fine-Tuning Your Radial Arm Saw
by Jon Eakes
I'm at work, so I don't have the publication data. It's available mail-order
through Lee Valley Tools in Canada, though I got it at a bookstore... He
has a real knack for coming up with simple, logical "tricks" that are
perfectly obvious ONCE you know them... I've used this on my machine
(an old Craftsman) and I'm quite happy with the results.
> How to Use it/When is it the saw of choice
It's the only stationary power tool I own. I've been having some trouble
getting it to rip properly (problems with kickback on hardwoods -- I think
I'm not using enough hold-downs and fingerboards: to date, I haven't been
using ANY vertical ones, so it's probably just my own damned fault).
> What attachments are worth acquiring
I have a planer head for mine
(attaches to the accessory head) and plan to get a drill chuck and a
sanding disk. Beyond that, I have no plans for other accessories, though
I agree with you that there are a plethora of them available...
> How to keep sawdust under control.
I find that sawdust is not a real problem unless you're ripping stock. In
that case, I attach the nozzle of my shop vac to the exhaust port of the
blade guard. Presto! No sawdust mess.
