I have a Tiawanese el-cheapo 14" bandsaw. It is called a "Summit."
It has 4 speeds and came with a 3/4 hp 1725 rmp motor. It was OK but
not great till I needed to resaw some 6" red oak. No way. I replaced
the motor with a 1 1/2 hp 3450 rmp motor, and now I really like the saw.
I can no longer use the top speed, and it took a few tries to get it
setup with the extra power and speed. It still has some noises I wish
were not there, but I have been unable to locate the exact source. It now
cuts great. No problem resawing up to the max capacity (6").
I really should tune the saw up better, but it is working well.
